Abstract
Web platforms have historically kept users firmly locked in, making it difficult for better services to succeed even when they emerge. We argue that the recently introduced paradigm of user-side realization can serve as a catalyst that smooths the energy landscape of platform dynamics, creating a healthier environment. In particular, we argue that LLM agents enable powerful forms of user-side realization and can substantially alter these dynamics. Of course, this change is not one-sided: as the environment changes, platform operators will also change their strategies and may devise new ways to lock users in. Nevertheless, we argue that user-side realization can fundamentally change the game.
